Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has become increasingly popular, thanks in part to the rise of combat sports organizations like the UFC and Bellator. While we do not offer live sparring at Rise Athletics LA, we provide all the essential tools to help you become a skilled Mixed Martial Artist.
MMA classes in Los Angeles combine a variety of fighting techniques, and that’s what makes it “mixed.” Training in disciplines such as boxing, Muay Thai, Jiujitsu, wrestling, kickboxing, and more prepares you to handle any combat situation effectively.
At Rise Athletics LA, we emphasize training for personal development and self-defense, not aggression. While we do not condone fighting, we ensure that our students are prepared for situations where they need to defend themselves.
Most of our MMA classes are fitness-based, allowing you to learn effective martial arts skills while having fun in a dynamic environment. Our goal is to create a family-friendly training atmosphere where respect is key, and egos are left at the door. We train together, support each other, and help one another grow to become better athletes and individuals.

Mixed martial arts has been seen throughout history in multiple societies. In China it was called Leitai, a mix of boxing and wrestling. This same combination was also seen in ancient Greece where the term pankration was coined. Just about everything was “legal” in the fight, with the exception of biting and eye gouging. Similar to today’s rules, fighters could “tap” or be submitted by holding up their index finger to symbolize being defeated. Today in training, tapping is a tool used to keep participants safe and also utilized practice training techniques without the risk of injury.
By taking a combination of classes offered at Rise Athletics LA, a members MMA prowess can be built. We offer gi and no gi brazilian jiujitsu (BJJ), Kickboxing (combination of Kickboxing, some Muy Thai and boxing) and traditional boxing. All of these classes have different components to contribute to becoming an MMA practitioner.
